To support academic staff with pre-award grant administration to stimulate research applications and increase research income from various sources, and to achieve this through:

• Identification and dissemination of funding opportunities
• Project manage the development of proposals from inception to submission
• Minimise academic effort spent on the pre-award grant administration by writing non-specialist sections of proposals and preparing related documents
• Provide support on the use of institutional and external systems associated with grant applications
• Maintain an application pipeline to support the department's annual planning of research and innovation
• Support the development of early-career academic staff and encourage applications to Fellowships, First Grants etc
• Produce and analyse statistics on the department's applications and awards of research funding proposals
• Organise and host visits to the department from key funding bodies and industrial partners
• Maintain a library of departmental funding applications to act as examples for future proposals
• Conduct post-assessment reviews of applications and disseminate best-practice
• Support the departmental Research & Innovation Committee
• Represent the department at Faculty meetings as appropriate
• Work closely with the the Faculty of Engineering Research & Innovation Hub and counterpart Departmental Business Development Managers to share funding intelligence, best-practice and support large-scale cross-Faculty bids
• To occasionally provide hands-on business development support in another department at times of peak demand
